    Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings

Cork Opera House is delighted to announce that US soul powerhouse Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings with special guests Lee Fields & the Expressions are to perform at this year's Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.
For over a decade, Sharon Jones and the Dap- Kings have traveled the world, blowing minds with their explosive live performances and their raw, hand-crafted studio recordings.
While other artists have ridden the crests and troughs of passing fads, Sharon Jones and her band have bypassed the hype-and-hit superhighway and taken a detour straight to the hearts and bodies of their listeners, transcending fleeting trends and delivering  visceral rhythm and soul sounds to an ever-expanding base of deeply loyal fans.
As distinguished as their many recordings may be, however, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have truly become renowned thanks to their incredible live show, not to mention their relentless touring.
And though it's certainly no easy task to keep such a vast ensemble on the road, the band continues to pack hundreds of venues worldwide, from New York’s Apollo Theater, Beacon Theater and Central Park's Summer Stage to their show-stopping sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Roskilde, Austin City Limits and WOMAD.

In addition, Sharon has hit the studio and stage with the likes of David Byrne (including in his upcoming Here Lies Love), They Might Be Giants, Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed and Michael Bublé.
Not to be outdone, the Dap-Kings' musical chops have also been in high-demand. Legendary soul icon Al Green tapped their services for his Grammy-winning Blue Note release,’ Lay It Down’; Public Enemy beatmaster/producer Hank Shocklee made use of them for the feature film ‘ American Gangster’; and Mark Ronson utilised them for much of Amy Winehouse's Grammy-winning ‘Back to Black’.
In 2013, Daptone Records announced the release of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings’ Give the People What They Want when Sharon Jones was diagnosed with cancer.
The scheduled release and supporting tours were immediately put on hold and all efforts were quickly shifted to her treatment and recovery.
It brings great joy and relief to announce that after a successful operation, ongoing treatment, and the continued support and love of friends, family, and fans, Sharon Jones is back.
Give the People What They Want was released in January this year, followed by Sharon Jones’s triumphant return to the stage in February at the Beacon Theater in New York City, their first show in nearly a year.
Don’t miss Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. An amazing night ahead.

    Lee Fields & The Expressions

There aren’t too many artists making soul music today who had a release in 1969, back when R&B was first beginning to hit the charts.

Lee Fields, however, is one such artist, and this soul music giant will bring his years of experience to Cork Opera House stage for the first time

Since the late sixties, North Carolina native Lee Fields, has amassed a prolific catalogue of albums and has toured and played with such legends as Kool and the Gang, O.V Wright, Darrell Banks, and Little Royal.

With a catalogue that ranges from James Brown-style funk to lo-fi blues, from contemporary Southern soul to collaborations with French house DJ/producer Martin Solveig, Lee Fields has done it all.

Today, with his great band, The Expressions, Lee continues to evolve, drawing comparisons to groups like The Moments, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and the great James Brown, while at the same time creating a space of his own as he interprets the foundations of good soul music rather than copy and imitate.
Don’t miss out on what is sure to be an extraordinary double – bill show of contemporary and throwback soul, as Lee Fields and The Expressions join Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings for a night to remember at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.
